A great tool for working with older electronics

This is an educational/teaching guide for working with older electronic equipment. Note that its copyright date is 1992, so it has limited value for much of the equipment being sold today. But for someone who works with the older stuff - tuners, amplifiers, tape decks, etc. - it is a great help and will save hours of aimless/fruitless puttering when trying to fix these items. Note that this is not a beginner's guide - some elementary knowledge of electricity and electronics will be required to really make the best use of the book.

Very good book on a overlooked subject!

With a lack or "great" titles on this subject, this book is my favorite if the 3 I have read. Middlebrook has a great style in writing and all of his works always hits the mark. While not wasting very much time with the events on the world stage, Middlebrook informs the reader on this important "war" fought at the height the Cold War. The reader is given many first person accounts (mostly British, with some Argentine, and Falklander comments) which greatly add to the enjoyment of this book. The reader can see how the UK, one of the worlds Former "superpowers" could very easily have lost this war and control over the Falklands. The Land, Sea, and Air stories are all told (the Air war was lacking of the 3), as well as some of the behind the scenes maneuverings in London, Buenos Aries, and Ascension Island. Logistically the British were very challenged, this point was not delved into enough for my liking. Over all, a great author comes through again.

Good but heavy

Again written in Middlebrook's style. Lots of details but heavy to read. He includes chapters from the start which explain the issues surrounding the war, the initial invasion by the Argentines and life for the inhabitants after the war starts. There are also chapters on the sinking of the General Belgrano and the Sheffield and the immensly interesting "Black Buck" missions the British launched from Ascension Island. This book is difficult to read due to the amount of information that Middlebrook includes, however, don't be put off by this. The book is an excellent introduction to the Falklands War and explains how it unfolded. If you are interested in the wider perspective of the war then you should try Nigel West's " Secret War for the Falklands ".

Having been to Provence may times, I was expecting to revisit my favorite place. Instead, this book is a 'ladies who lunch' frivolous interpretation of the beauty, guts and soul of Provence. Most of the numerous flower photos and still lifes could have been taken in a studio. The author's fawning over her decor and daughters or friends made me feel more like I was reading the society page. NO art or vision here. Save your money...even at half price! This is a big coffee table nothing !French Essence: Ambience, Beauty, and Style in Provence

If you like pictures of Ms. Archer's collections and house

I purchased this book, thinking that there would be more about the surrounding villages and cities near the area the author resides in St. Remy-de-Provence. There is little text that is of interest. It is mostly about her love of collecting and her property," Le Mas." Some lovely photos, but not enough to warrant purchasing.

Beautiful book but . . . . .

I assumed from reading the previous reviews and several interior decorating blogs that this book would have some "AWESOME" interior photos of Mrs Archer's mas and varous others in the region including photos of daily village life, etc. I once again am reminded what the old saying is about "assuming". It IS a beautiful book, no doubt. But WHY is it listed under the subject of Interior Decorating?? It just didn't include the type of inspiring interior photos I was expecting and hoping for. So, am I glad I bought it? Yes, but . . . . . . . . . Would I recommend it to my friends? Perhaps, er.. maybe, but NOT if they are interested decorating in the French style. Should I buy her first book? Let me check to see how much a used, in good condition "My French Life" would cost me first.

Great book for any PM to own.

About the Author

Seymour Lipschutz is a professor of mathematics at Temple University in Philadelphia and teaches at regular intervals at the University of Beijing. He is one of Schaums' most prolific authors, with more than 15 Outlines to his credit.

Mark Lipson (Philadelphia, PA) is on the mathematics faculty at the University of Georgia, and has taught at Northeastern University and Boston University.

Errata please...

Although this book does cover a lot of ground, it is full of errors in the solved problems. One example: 9!/3!3!3! = 5040 when it actually equals 1680. Another is asking how many students out of 10 can be pres. and VP yet the solution only selects from the male students, not all of them.

It has about 1 error per 25 pages in the first half. Another book of Schaum's I used had no errors I found.

I bought this book to prepare for a Google interview. I got the job and start Sep 22 so clearly this purchase was worthwhile. The material is a bit dry but it is well presented and I learned a few things about probability and map representations. Recommended.

Not a wonderful book

I'm taking a Discrete Math class. This book was recommended by my instructor as a supplement to our textbook and workbook. Frankly, I found the Schaum's book only made a difficult subject even more difficult. Explanations of example problems seemed to skip steps or make assumptions of implied knowledge of certain aspects of Discrete Math. In places it contradicted my course textbook.
