Excellent preparation manual!!! Quickest, easiest way to study for PTCE!

One of the best comprehensive exam preparation books out there for becoming a pharmacy technician as well as passing the exam. I used it to prepare for the PTCE and passed with flying colors. I've noticed comments saying this isn't a good study guide or that it won't prepare you for the exam. Don't blame the book for your incompetence. Unless you're an idiot or don't study well from reviews then this book will give you what you need. If you need a class or examples worked Anne offers a 2 day study course that goes along with the book. If that isn't enough then perhaps you shouldn't be trying to become a pharmacy technician. Definitely the most bang for your buck and the most cost effective way to prepare. But if you want to waste $20,000 for a year of pharmacy technician school that won't prepare you for anything be my guest. As long as you study the information covered and work the examples given you will be fine.

Definitely NOT comprehensive

This book was not comprehensive and referred to Texas only. What about the other states? The misspelled words (and there were quite a few)were a distraction. There were grammatical and spacing issues as well. You will not pass with this book alone.
This would be better titled as a guideline.

amazing for math practice before the board

its very easy to understand and practice for your board. the only con it's the laws because its for texas and I live in PR. But, the math and medications are excellent instructions to practice whatever you go. I recommend to practice math and review all you're acknowledges before the board.

Nuances in Creative Writing

Author LaPlante's textbook Method and Madness--The Making of a Story is a textbook you will not put down. You will be surprised to find new twists and turns on the subject and the various ideas of writing a short story, a novel or a novelette. For example, I was surprised and at first shocked to find out the everlasting dictum of "show and don't tell" have been misinterpreted. This is because high school professors and even college professors who continue to teach their students not to "tell" when writing, but to concentrate on "showing". LaPlante explains the "Show and Tell" idea in a clear understandable and clear way. This concept is explained in Chapter 5 under the subheading of, "Why You Need to Show and Tell--Dramatizing and Narrating". The chapter, as well as the rest of the chapters, is followed by a set of exercises the student and or reader may undertake in order to understand the nuances of the chapter. The exercises are followed by two short story readings. In this chapter, the reader is introduced to the short story titled, "Brownies" by ZZ Packer and "Everything That Rises Must Converge" by Flannery O'Connor. Both short stories complement the "Show and Tell" ideas explained in the given chapter.

The textbook consist of fourteen chapters, an anthology of ten stories and thirty-nine readings. The chapters are as follows:

This textbook is much better organized and developed than "Writing Fiction: A Guide to Narrative Craft" by Janet Burroway. For your peace of mind, examine the reviews on both textbooks. Even the anthology of stories and short story readings included in "Method and Madness" are superb, interesting, and hard to put down. The reader will want more of the story once he or she has finished the two readings included after every chapter. All readings left me thinking further and with the wish to continue exploring other works from the given authors. Tim O'Brien's short story titled, "The Things They Carried" had a profound effect on me. "The Bees" by Dan Chaon is another of the many readings, which is not only suspenseful, but it left me thinking of the ending. All of the thirty-nine readings are superb and interesting.

As a writer, and or student, you will not get rid of this textbook after you finish studying it. I guarantee you will decide to keep it next to your writing desk and often refer to it. It will come in handy as you develop your novel, short story, and novelette or to refresh your memory on the many writing concepts clearly and expertly described by author Alice LaPlante.

I strongly recommend this textbook for creative writing students and to interested readers who like to learn more of the art of creative writing.

A Utterly Superb Text

I had to buy this book for a short story workshop I enrolled in. I wasn't expecting much, having had lots of creative writing textbooks assigned by a lot of teachers, and frankly found them all to be boring and not-very-helpful. This one just blew me away. I thought I "knew it all" -- but LaPlante keeps challenging conventional wisdom. She gives you the deepest, most masterful explanations of craft I've ever encountered -- and then encourages you to make up your mind about how to use these tools. No imposing of narrow-minded rules that you all too often get in workshops. I have to admit, it made me want to go back and tell former colleagues in workshops...wait! I was wrong about that! The readings are great, but what I find especially useful are the examples. LaPlante doesn't ever tell you anything without fully illustrating it with an excerpt -- whether from a published masterpiece or from a student's work. So you're always grounded. Get this book. You'll be as grateful as I am to the teacher who assigned it.

During LePlante's May 21, 2014 appearance on "Writers on Writing", she stated this textbook is EXACTLY the same as her other writing book, _The Making of a Story: A Norton Guide to Creative Writing_. Even LaPlante doesn't use the textbook version when she teaches. Save yourself the ridiculous $30 mark-up by buying the trade paperback instead for less than $20.

Mystery unveiled: making money work twice as hard for you

This book is a short read with concentrated information on different types of life insurance policies. Better than that, it shows creative (even surprising!) ways to use certain types of insurance to build tax-deferred or tax-free growth of your money. It describes ways to enhance your life at every stage of adulthood. In other words, using the policy for financial benefit while you are alive, not only for a payment to your family at the time of your passing. Hence the word "live" in the title. It's a complicated subject, but the author breaks down the concepts into understandable chunks and explains each step. She also describes the different actions and benefits to take at each stage of life: 20-40, 41-50, and 50+. I was particularly intrigued by learning how to use one kind of policy, in conjunction with specific financing on a home, to live a more fun and comfortable life after retirement - and still leave my heirs with more assets and no debt! If Kim ever writes a revised edition, I'd sure like to see some graphics to help demonstrate the concepts but this is a great expose` on the principles as-is.

Very Useful Book

Kim Butler's book is fabulous. She clearly presents you with the little known fact that "the first Beneficiary of your Life Insurance policy should be YOU." It is likely the most under-utilized opportunity in personal finance to increase your cash flow. You read that right: you don't have to die to use properly-designed Life Insurance! It's not about just borrowing from your cash value, you don't sell your policy to someone; none of that here. She clearly gives you some tools and concepts you'll want when you look to utilize a non-traditional financial planning approach, hopefully very soon.

Thank God for Prosperity Economic teachers like Kim. Her leadership and this book are a first for consumers, because they are based on truth concepts. I've known of Kim for years, and I've verified these concepts over the last 25+ years, even longer than I've known her.

The book is easy for a consumer to read and understand (It is NOT easy for a traditional financial planner, so don't bother). She divides LYLI into 3 sections: 1. How to Use Your Cash Value, 2. How to Use Your Death Benefit While You Are Living, and 3. A very clear Glossary. Within this framework, she describes 5 phases of owning life insurance from the very first year with real-world examples: The Start-up Phase, Years 1-5; The Leverage Opportunity Phase years: 6-30; Spending Other Assets Phase: Years 20 - 40; Using the Death Benefit Phase (Years 41 - 50); and finally the 5th Phase, Setting Up the Family Bank ( Years 51+). This is an excellent, common-sense approach to personal finance, and it could not come at a better time for you.

Remember: The "first Beneficiary of your Life Insurance policy should be YOU."

Clementine has had many not-so-good days. But this one just might be the worst. She loses her favorite hat, her science project is ruined and the "family meeting!" sign is up on the refrigerator-that's never a good thing. Even though family meetings are supposed to be about family issues, Clementine usually ends up getting in trouble. But this one is different. Clementine's dad announces that their family is going to grow. Are they are getting a gorilla, like Clementine has always wanted?! No. It's a new baby. Clementine is N-O-T, not happy. They are a family of four. Four is a perfect number. In infallible Clementine reasoning: "Four can be two and two sometimes, and nobody is lonely. Two kids and two grown-ups. Two boys and two girls. There are four sides to the kitchen table, so we each get one." Five just doesn't work. Pennypacker tackles the oft-written new-baby theme from a refreshing, older perspective; jealousy is not the foremost emotion, it's vulnerability. Everything is changing too fast. Clementine and her dad have always had a unique bond, but in this venture, he especially shines. He picks up on unspoken feelings and knows just how to give the right amount of comfort. Sara Pennypacker (www.sarapennypacker.com) is the author of four previous Clementine books and Sparrow Girl, illustrated by Yoko Tanaka. She divides her time between Texas and Massachusetts.

Marla Frazee (www.marlafrazee.com) has illustrated all of the Clementine books and many other beloved titles. She has been awarded a Caldecott Honor on two occasions, for All the World by Liz Garton Scanlon, and for A Couple of Boys Have the Best Week Ever, which she also wrote. She lives in Pasadena, California, where she works in a small backyard cabin under an avocado tree.

Lots of laughter and smiles.

One of the things that I enjoy most about the Clementine books is the fact that Clementine seems so real, just like the kids I work with every day. She has her strengths (very observant, kind heart, willing to work) and her weaknesses (fidgety, impulsive). She has good days and bad days just like every child does. She has problems at school (missing science project rat) and at home (adjusting to a baby on the way). But Clementine's family and friends are interesting characters as well and are more than just secondary characters.

The writing is superb and very suitable for a third grader, I can here her voice in my head even when I am not reading the book. The illustrations by Caldecott Honor winning Marla Frazee provide the perfect compliment to the writing. Overall, a great addition to the series and I highly recommend the whole series.

A gem of a book.

I remember reading the first Clementine book a few years ago and laughing out loud. The series has quickly become a favorite and Clementines's fans and new readers will love this addition. Clementine's mom is pregnant, her friend Margaret is obsessed with make-up and the rat being used in her science experiment is missing. Just how much is a third grade girl supposed to handle?

Not only does Clementine have an understanding teacher, her parents are amazing. They know what to say and how to say it and twice I found myself tearing up. Written so young readers will not only want to read this book they will fall in love with Clementine and her family. Recommended for those who enjoy Ivy and Bean, Judy Moody and Kylie Jean and for readers graduating from easy chapter books. Do you think we will ever find out Clementine's little brother's real name? A lovely chapter book - sincere, entertaining , and the emotional register is spot-on

When Clementine's parents call a family meeting, the third grader is pretty sure the agenda won't be good. In fact, she's fairly certain she's in trouble for something. But she never would've guessed that they had such big news: her mom is pregnant!

Sara Pennypacker's latest, CLEMENTINE AND THE FAMILY MEETING, is just as funny, insightful and charming as the four previous Clementine books. This time out, Clementine is dealing with disappointment and changes not only from her parents' revelation, but also at school and with her friend Margaret. Margaret is Clementine's older and sometimes wiser friend. Lately, she has been driving Clementine crazy with talk of moving to California to be a make-up artist. The make-up is bad enough, but Clementine gets sad thinking about the loss of her friend. Even though she is confident Margaret won't really move, as Clementine watches her mature, she feels like she is losing her just a bit anyway. Yet her evolving friendship with Margaret is just one of the things Clementine is dealing with.

At school, the rat that she was supposed to train for a science experiment, Eighteen, has escaped. She is worried about it, but is also anxious about her science partner's claim that he has superhero powers and that they should be the focus of their work now that the rat is gone. And, to top it all off, Clementine's very favorite hat, knitted by her grandmother, is missing. While she is focused on Eighteen, the hat and Margaret, the idea of the baby is never off her mind. Why should they go from a family of four to a family of five when they are so great as a family of four? How will they all fit in the apartment? Will the baby have a fruit name like she does, or will she have to give it a vegetable nickname like her brother? Clementine is not convinced that a baby is a good idea at all.

But, as her other problems resolve, Clementine comes to terms with the baby. No matter how she changes, Margaret is still her friend. Her hat and Eighteen (and five little surprises) are found together at school. She is reminded of how great being a big sister can be. A brand-new, grown-up tool belt full of brand-new, grown-up tools, makes her feel much better. And a very special building project may be just what she needs to get over the emotional shock she felt at the family meeting.

CLEMENTINE AND THE FAMILY MEETING is a lovely chapter book. The writing is sincere and entertaining, and the emotional register spot-on. Clementine is at once a plucky and funky storybook heroine and a relatable every-girl. Once again, Pennypacker's story is perfectly punctuated by Marla Frazee's great pen and ink drawings. This is a very welcome addition to the series, but works well as a stand-alone book exploring the joys and pains of transitions and the adventure of growing up.
