One of the selling points of this book is that it is accompanied by free, downloadable recordings of some of the scripts. Unfortunately, the site it points to, zonehypnosis.com, is no longer operational.

Do you trust yourself?

Does Hypnosis exist or is it just in the imagination? This is a reasonable question to ask and the only way to determine whether it is real is to experience it yourself. Usually, people turn to hypnosis as a last result; after they have tried various other strategies to deal with their problem. If they visit a professional hypnotist for treatment then, at some point, they have to place themselves in the hands of the therapist and trust them. With self-hypnosis, that therapist is you! So how does it work? The answer to that question is why you are going to buy this book.

Rick Smith, an expert in the field of hypnotism guides the reader step by step through a series of deep relaxation techniques until the 'trance' state of total relaxation of mind and body is reached. The exercises themselves are therapeutic and each time you repeat them, the deeper the resulting trance will be. So, in the first half of the book, the author teaches you how to achieve the trance state and in the second half of the book, he teaches you how to use the trance state to achieve your goals.

The secret of the technique is in the human voice but, and it is an important but, the voice you are going to listen to is one that you must trust. So. included in the book are links to mp3 sound tracks covering different parts of the technique. You may either use these or make your own recording of the scripts which Mr. Smith also provides. It really is up to you which method you prefer. However, do not assume that if the voice you listen to is your own it will make things easier; there is a possibility that contrary to popular opinion, you might not like the sound of your own voice. In which case Mr. Smith's dulcet tones may be the answer.

This is a brilliant book, clearly and concisely explained and eminently readable. If you really want to try self hypnosis and don't know anything about it, then you can do no better than to invest in your copy. It well teach you properly and serve you well.

Had Me Hooked From the Start!

Before I happened across this book, I hadn't really given much thought to self-hypnosis, believing myself to be a well-adjusted adult who wasn't in need of such things. But from the first page, I was intrigued and just had to find out more. The clear explanations and instructions given make it quite a page turner, for a non-fiction book, and I was amazed at the range of situations that the 'System' could be used for.

The ease with which the scripts can be obtained, from the author's website directly on to a phone, tablet or PC, make it easy to get started at each stage. I also like the format of the book, with the practical know-how coming first and the more detailed history and explanations of hypnosis and its uses coming later on.

The book is very well-written without any of those jarring typos and grammar glitches that so spoil the reading experience of any book and is one that I will be dipping in and out of for some time to come.

The Kind of Bible That Has It All

I have used the Harper Study Bible New American Standard Bible since it first was published in 1985. It is the only New American Standard Bible that contains the most literal and accurate text translation of the original Scriptures in the Englsih language. But the Harper Study Bible has much more than the rest of the New American Standard Bibles in print. I will list them here:

1.) The text is in paragraph formate, not columned like most Bibles, enabling easier reading.
2.) Above each paragraph is the subject heading, making it easier to find a topic for study.
3.) The chain reference is on the outside column of the page according to each verse, making it easier to look up.
4.) The words of Christ are in red, placing His words in a category all its own, as it ought to be.
5.) Notes which form a verse by verse commentary are at the bottom of each page written by Dr. Harold Lindsell.
5.) Each book of the Bible is prefaced with a background synopsis of the writer, historical context, and other valuable information.
6.) There is a limited concordance in the back of the Bible which, like any other which all Bible versions, of little use, because it is limited.
7.) There are maps in the back of the Bible which help with the study of God's Word.

Now a word about the late Dr. Harold Lindsell. He was a scholar with a conservative mainline Evangelical approach to God's Word, and therefore his notes througnout the entire Harper Study Bible New American Standard Bible is made with great care by him, balanced, fair, and without the doctrinal fallout of being in this "camp" or "that." He believed in the innerrancy of Scripture, and it is reflected in his writing and in his notes throughout the Scriptures.

This Bible is out of print, and up until earlier in 2013, one was able to purchase a copy of it either in hardbound, or leather for a decent price. I purchased fourteen of them during the first six months of this year, and the price ranges I bought them for were from $18.00 for one in GOOD CONDITION to $150.00 in LIKE NEW CONDITION. I did not pay the exhorbitant artificially inflated prices they're now advertised for. Ironically, I purchased many of my copies from some of the same vendors here at Amazon.com, others I purchased from other used book vendors for reasonable prices.

It is unfortunate that the Harper Study Bible New American Standard Bible is out of print, because it is the only Bible that features side-column reference, paragraphed text with topical headings per paragraph, the words of Christ in red, with commentaries at the bottom of each page, as well as a background to each book of the Bible written by conservative Evangelical Scholar, Dr. Harold Lindsell. None of the new study Bibles in print today offer all of these features in a single volume as does The Harper Study Bible New American Standard Bible.

But there is absolutely no reason for the sellers of these used Bibles to advertise them at inflated prices they've been posted as, especially when these same sellers sold them to people like me just months ago for more reasonably affordable prices. NOT ONE OF THEM HAVE SOLD UNDER THE NEW INFLATED PRICES, and NOT ONE OF THEM WILL SELL UNTIL THESE SELLERS BRING THEIR PRICES DOWN AND CUT THEM BY AT LEAST ONE HALF OF WHAT THEY ARE CURRENTLY ADVERTISED FOR. waste of money and time

Dont buy this book, waste of money and time. The code examples are not complete, i had to go and add some things on my own. Luckily i had done iOS and Android natively so i could figure most the missing code, but if you are new, you will struggle and spend your time on a goose chase. You can see the provided code sample are different from the code in the book.

thought-provoking and easy to read

I bought this book because it seemed to get to ideas I've been using in my latest painting project. Turkle gives a very nice and brief introduction to how she became interested in objects as a path to philosophy and ways of thinking about the world. The vignettes are rather random and I think quite beautiful. This is not a book that will have a great final point. It meanders and allows you to make associations and hopefully draw some conclusions about your own life and the objects in it. I also like that the book itself is a wonderful object. About the size of a hymnal or some other type of book meant to be held and easy to carry around. A very nice book as a gift for someone who has too many things!

"Evocative Objects" -- insightful and absorbing

This book is a gem. In this collection of essays, the authors reflect on how a seemingly simple object - a rolling pin, a train, a pair of ballet slippers - can serve as an emotional marker and play a powerful role in understanding relationships, life transitions and loss. I'll recommend this book to my book group because it should prompt a lively discussion about the evocative objects of the members.

It's a mistake to believe that things are "just" things

This is an unexpectedly delightful yet seriously thoughtful book that invites you reexamine your relationship to objects, about which, you seldom, if ever think.

It's a collection of essays written by humanists, designers, scientists and artists--thoughtful individuals--that disclose the fluidity and complexity of being alive by revealing their very personal relationships with objects as mundane as a rolling pin and as banal as comic book superheroes.

Each essay is paired with writings from philosophy, history, literature and theory which resonate with the essay in ways that illuminate both what the essayist is saying and what he or she means.

Each essay, in a very different way, demonstrates why it is a mistake to assume that objects are nothing more than inanimate collections of atoms and molecules. They show instead that objects can be and often are capable of evoking potent emotional responses dealing with grief, fear, loss, love, hatred, abandonment, intellectual curiosity, poverty and existence.

Here's a taste of what's in store for you should you choose to read this book:

From the essay MURRAY: THE STUFFED BUNNY

Before the essay the paired writing offers this: "To get to the idea of playing it is helpful to think of the preoccupation that characterizes the playing of a young child. The content does not matter. What matters is the near withdrawal state, akin to the concentration of older children and adults. The playing child inhabits an area that cannot be easily left, nor can it easily admit intrusions. This area of playing is not inner psychic reality. It is outside the individual but it is not the external world. Into this play area the child gathers objects or some sample derived from inner or personal reality...[Thus] in playing, the child manipulates external phenomena with dream meaning and feeling [And] there is a direct development from transitional phenomena to playing, and from playing to shared playing, and from this to cultural experiences." --D. W. Winnicott, Playing and Reality

The essay is about the experiences of a little girl with an actual stuffed bunny and explores how, at first, she finds it no different from "the rest of the pastel objects" of her world. As you follow the story you learn how the little girl (the author's sister) develops the idea that a she can love a bunny.

Next you come to understand how she deals with the separation anxiety associated with the realization that when she begins nursery school she won't be able to take Murray with her. Later you learn how the little girl infuses Murray with a life of his own in a utopian setting with provinces and capitals and a complicated topography. And finally the author reveals this about Murray: "...he has given me a ringside seat at the performance of Shayna's imagination, even as I remind myself that in fact it was she, as his creator who bought me the ticket to that seat."

This book will make you laugh and cry, say WHAT(?) and oh yeah, I know exactly what that feels like. I found reading it like riding an intellectual rollercoaster that forced me to reexamine not only objects but my relationship with and to them.

The book begins and ends with an essay by Sherry Turkle which adds to the reading experience and further illuminates how and why objects, can and do become powerfully evocative.

I recommend this book without reservation.

Hinduja and Patchin excel again! These experts get to the heart of cyber abuse including information from leaders in the field. This book would be helpful for anyone in education as well as parents dealing with raising children in this technological age. The book was useful for me in that I am working on my dissertation. Again, most helpful resource, I recommend.

I am a Ph.D. student and my focus is on cyberbullying. This book was amazing and I recommend it for anyone needing to write a paper or do a project on cyberbullying. There is even two pages which provides references to many studies done on cyberbullying.

Another really great read by Hinduja and Patchin. Cyerbullying Prevention and Response: Expert
Perspectives is a collection works from of some of the most knowledgeable experts in the field of cyberbullying. I enjoyed how the book ranged from explanations of cyberbullying, to how it impacts our youth, and finishing with how we can try to help stop cyberbullying with implementation. While I felt some parts of this book was more difficult to read than their other books, because some of the experts' information was a little too technical for me, the compilation of several author's views on various aspects of cyberbullying was interesting to read and informative. This is a definite must read for anyone studying the topic of cyberbullying.
